Following on from a successful showcase at UK’s biggest fashion trade show Pure London, Africa Fashion Week London 2014, both in early August, and a London Fashion Week kickstarter event The Catwalk Edit earlier this month, RAAAH will be heading back home to designer Rahima Mohammed’s native Zimbabwe to showcase her debut collection ‘Fly/Fly High’ at Zimbabwe Fashion Week on Saturday, 27 September at 9pm.
Founded in April 2014, RAAAH is the brainchild of businesswoman turned fashion designer Rahima Mohamed.
The versatile and contemporary ‘Fly/Fly High’ collection is informed by a celebration of colours from more earthy creams and ivories to vibrant reds and timeless black, bold shapes as well as vintage inspired pieces which, according to Rahima, requires to certain level of confidence to pull off. The designs had the intended effect on the runway turning heads, stealing the show and flying high.
The label’s Zimbabwe Fashion Week debut will mark yet another step on the journey to becoming a global brand. Since its launch in April 2014, emerging London label RAAAH has continued to make waves both at home and abroad, attracting the attention of national and international media and buyers as well as celebrities such as Tiwa Savage who was photographed in a RAAAH dress only last month.
“I’m looking to forward to ZFW; being Zimbabwean, it’s a big deal for me. I’ve so far made my label heard in Europe and West Africa, Zimbabwe is still not familiar with RAAAH, so I thought I’d take my collection home. I’m looking forward to it and can’t wait for the reception,” Rahima said.
Founded by Priscilla Chigariro-Gessen in October 2009, Zimbabwe Fashion Week is Zimbabwe’s premier fashion event. Zimbabwe Fashion Week has a strong developmental focus, serving primarily as a platform for the country’s designers to reveal their creations, as well as helping to revive a once-booming textile and fashion industry.
