Actress Samira Wiley joins Sam Smith, Ellen Page and Zachary Quinto to cover LGBT magazine Out with a glamorous photo shoot. In the black and white photos, Wiley channels Josephine BakerJosephine Baker in her role in 1934 French film Zouzou with the over the shoulder cover photo in which she appears to be topless with just a pearl necklace draped over her shoulders.
Orange Is The New Black actress Samira Wiley, who plays the role of likeable prison inmate Poussey Washington on the Netflix series, made headlines earlier this year when she attended the Emmys with rumoured girlfriend and series writer Lauren Morelli who separated from her husband of only five-months when she realised her sexual orientation.
The 27-year-old also talked about being a lesbian in a religious family as her father Dennis W. Wiley and her mother Christine Wiley are the co-pastors of Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ, which in 2007 became the only traditionally black Baptist church in D.C. to perform same-sex unions.
“I feel like oftentimes in the church people get caught up in literal translations of the Bible. But that’s not the home I grew up in. I was just taught that love is the most powerful thing. And being able to see that and see my parents on the forefront of that made such a big impact on my life.” the actress said.
