Oscar Pistorious

After four days of intense cross-examinations of the Oscar Pistorious trial on Reeva Steenkamp’s death on the 14th February 2013, Gerrie Nel who is Pistorious’ chief prosecutor has had the paralympic athlete confused on his words.

On Monday, Nel had accused Pistorious of ‘tailoring’ his account of how he killed his girlfriend. Pistorius had revealed that he went to check the balcony in his home, an evidence he had not previously included in his information to the court. Pistorius changed his mind when questioned, saying he wasn’t checking, he went on the balcony to scream for help. Nel then accused him of tailoring evidence and adapting as he goes.

Reeva Steenkamp was shot through a closed toilet door in his apartment in Pretoria, South Africa. The athlete claimed that he shot her because he thought she was an intruder in his apartment.

Pistorius got very emotional yesterday as  Nel was getting frustrated with his waterworks: “You’re not using your emotional state as an escape are you? he asks. “I don’t understandy why this evidence would make you emotional – we are not talking about Reeva”. Nel said.

The prosecutor again tried to highlight inconsistencies between Pistorius’ bail application and his testimony in court to show he is creating new versions to suit his case.

“I am going to point out to you how improbable your version is,” Nel told the runner, who sat immobile, as he answered questions.

“I did not fire to kill the intruder, I shot to frighten them. I did not have time to think about it.” Pistorius told the court, with his voice trembling.

Pistorious shot Reeva through this bathroom door

Nel said the biggest issue in the whole case is that Pistorius never checked the bathroom window for a ladder that an intruder might have used to get in.

I then made my way back to the bed after shooting and I realised Reeva wasn’t there”. He said he felt the curtains to see if she was hiding. “I panicked that she wasn’t responding” so he went back to the bathroom as quick as he could.

“I screamed out for her. I put my shoulder against the door, trying to rip open the door, so ran back on my stumps and I screamed, screamed for help. Then I put my legs on as quick as I could.” Pistorious disclosed, causing a brief adjournment in the day’s proceedings.
