Lace, ruffles, brocades, velvet, pleats were the order of the day on the runway Tadashi Shoji presented his A/W 2012-2013 collection inspired by the Golden Age of Shanghai as cocktail dresses and gorgeous gowns in muted jewel tones of green, gold, red and cobalt took centre stage creating demure evening looks.

With day wear, Shoji presented a palette of Asian-inspired florals with bold splashes of red and gold reminiscent of autumnal tones.

With Octavia Spencer sporting pastel hued gowns from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection at the SAGs and the Golden Globes, and with some showstoppers in this more sombre autumnal collection such as the final piece that was black velvet dress with beaded lace embroidery at the neck, Tadashi Shoji may prove a favourite for the Oscars and well beyond.
