Miss Kenya Catherine Anyango and Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mushandu have been named among the 20 finalists in the Top Model category – one of the six finals – of the Miss World finals being held in London. Beating competition from 120 other beauties from around the globe, Miss Kenya and Miss Zimbabwe made it to the top 20 as the only two African finalists.

In the run up to the grand finale at Earls Court on November 6 which also marks the contest’s 60th anniversary this year,  the 122 contestants will also take part in five other contests  Miss Beach Beauty, Beauty With A Purpose, Fitness, Talent and Traditional Dance.

Malaika is currently studying motion picture medium and live performance at University. Hobbies include: studying the lives of powerful women, basketball, volleyball and dancing. Malaika describes herself as a fun loving and warm person.

Tell us a little something about your Country ?
Zimbabwe stands out because of its warm welcoming people, diverse landscape and mineral wealth.
Future ambitions ?
To be an internationally recognised model however my backup plan is in cinematography.
Describe yourself
I am like red wine, an acquired taste. I take my time to study people so I can seem intimidating at first but once I have warmed up, I am a fun-loving and friendly person.
Personal Motto?
You are the change you want to see.
Favourite food ?
Traditional meal which is a mixture of brown sadza, dried vegetables and oxtail.
Favourite Music / Books ?
My favourite music is jazz.
Do you have any pets ?
I have one cat.
What is the proudest moment of your life or most memorable day?
My proudest moment was when the water and sanitation project materialised; receiving a donation was exhilarating.

Acting.

I enjoy studying the lives of controversial, powerful women (e.g. Cleopatra). There is so much to learn from their sound characters and power.
