Grooming the girls into style @ MBGN Boot Camp
I was hoping to have a decent lounge in bed on Saturday, but I was called alongside Dimeji Alara (Editor-In-Chief) of Mania Magazine to give some styling tips and a style challenge to the beautiful contestants of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant-not complaining. We both had to come up with styling tasks for the girls in boot camp to complete in 10 minutes and d’you know what? I didn’t expect it to be so much fun!
I had my group of 14 beauties style themselves using vintage clothing and accessories from my vintage boutique- Retrospective and their own clothing. It was very interesting to see what kind of looks the girls came up with, very amusing too, some just had no clue whatsoever (bless), whilst other girls really took the challenge home and back. The winners of my challenge bagged themselves free copies of FAB and the leading pair won a Q&A session with Nigerian Musician Lynxxx aka Mr. Change Your Parade, aka Utunu (Yum!).
To be honest, I’ve not seen many MBGN pageants and some of the past winners have not really rocked my boat. However, I was pleased to observe some real competition amongst these girls, especially a few with great potential beyond the realms of a ‘beauty queen’. Perhaps one major aspect I would like to see observed in these beauty pageants is a diverse representation of what is perceived as beautiful in Nigeria.
FAB Wishes girls!
