In line with its focal objective of bringing the message of positivity, untapped potential and beauty in All conditions, Kinabuti Fashion Initiative (KFI), the social arm of the reputed Kinabuti fashion label, on March 29th 2012,hosted dignitaries in Lagos to the world premiere of its documentary “In Our Ghetto”.


The event, held at the prestigious Silverbird Galleria, was a parade of notable personalities with the likes of, Mr Ken Saro Wiwa (Patron of the event), Mr Tonye Cole (CEO Sahara group and Founder The Nehemiah Project), Ms Ranti Alebiosu. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Inter ‐ Governmental Relations (representing the Governor of Lagos State), Ms Sasha, Toolz (OAP), Ms Ronke Ademiluyi (Founder AFWL), Ms Ruth Osime (Style editor ThisDay Magazine), Mr Olisa Adibua, Ms Eku Edewor who also featured in the film and a host of other top dignitaries.


The documentary, set in Port Harcourt and shot in collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer and photojournalist, Massimo Sciacca and Marcus Werner Hed, is based on the `making of ‘‘In Our Ghetto” project which was the official launch and first Fashion show of Kinabuti label. It captures three weeks in the lives and work of three of the Kinabuti “In Our Ghetto” models, girls who were sourced from the waterside communities with no previous modelling experience but later trained by skilled professionals, as well as their families and other members of the communities who were involved in the production, and their step by step transformations from their challenging backgrounds to actually achieving their dreams.

The documentary Premiere is part of a series of multimedia events tagged Kinabuti Moving Exhibition set to tour Lagos, Port Harcourt, London, Nairobi and Venice. The exhibition seeks partnerships with schools, entities and associations, to encourage and improve the capacity of local communities and individuals to thereby make an impact on their environment.

The event has thus far been amiably supported by, MTN, Africamagic, Silverbird Group, Aero Contractors, Egypt Air, Martini, Four Points, Le Meridien and Mirabelle Restaurant.
