Every generation needs a trademark novelty dance. It’s essential. However the “twist” and the “robot” haven’t got a thing on the 2011-2012, dance phenomena that is the “Azonto”. Originating in Ghana, the dance incorporates stylistically isolated body movements in a rhythmic fashion. Particularly unique about this contagious dance is that anybody can add their own flavour to it- it’s wonderfully versatile.

Commercialised and made popular by artists such as “Sarkodie”- and of course the famous goal celebrations of the Black Star’s footballer Asamoah Gyan-it has taken dancefloors across continents by storm, transcending (as all true art-forms should), race and nationality.

The dance is so popular, that many songs have been created around that infectious “Azonto beat”, and the newest product from US based Nigerian artists “A’won Boyz” simply titled “Azonto” is no exception. Continuing the rhythmic trend, this new tune is bound every waist moving across the lands.
