Another month, another fashion-oriented I Rep Turkey as I take a belated look at the January covers of Turkish fashion glossies and pass my verdict on the good, the bad and the ugly.
Let’s kick off with Turkish Harper’s – my absolute favourite this month.
Koray Birand is fast becoming my favourite Turkish photographer when it comes to fashion and this month he photographed Candice Swanepoel for Spanish Bazaar as well as the Turkish one. Styled by Juan Cebrian, Candice looks fierce and fab here on the Turkish Bazaazr cover sporting Chanel and Victoria’s Secret.
Next up, my second favourite Vogue Turkey cover and thank goodness, no Photoshop horrors this time. Blond beauty Elsa Sylvan looks alluring in red photographed by KT Alueta in Turkey’s magical Cappadoccia landscape.
Marie Claire Turkey rings in the new year with two covers that are more reminiscent of beauty than fashion shots with your pick of Turkish TV beauties, Burcu Esmersoy and Naz Elmas.
Still not convinced about the fashion potential of these covers, but can’t fault the photography.
Whoop whoop! Thanks, Elle, for not rehashing a franchise cover and instead commissioning a local shoot with Turkey’s answer to Shakira – Hadise, and the gorgeous guy of Turkish pop, Murat Boz. “We’re having so much fun” the cover line reads and, photographed by Emre Dogru, they sure look it – although the jury’s still out on Hadise’s Kill Bill-inspired Tommy Hilfiger piece.
Elele’s January cover screams more pageantry than fashion but then again, considering the cover ladies are Turkey’s former beauty queens, I guess it’s befitting. Unfortunately, not the most fierce look!
This month sees one of my all time favourites All fall down to the bottom two. Nothing to fault here but just two words: SAME OLD! Time to flip the script, All, and give us something fresh.
And last and certainly the least comes the Turkish Cosmo – with yet another franchise cover, this time with Hollywood bombshell Scarlett Johansson… Yawn! Look, even Scarlett looks bored!
