Nigerian/Cameroonian pop star and Whitenicous CEO Dencia took to Twitter to attack Lupita Nyong’o after the 12 Years a Slave starrevealed that she persuaded a fan not to purchase Dencia’s skin-bleaching cream.
Clearly enraged by,Lupita’s speech at at the Essence Women in Hollywood Luncheon, where the actress talked about her personal journey as a dark skinned girl and read out a letter from a fan thanking her for influencing her decision not to purchase Whitenicious, Dencia took to Twitter to rant about the actress.
In her tweets, Dencie claimed that Lupita Nyong’o could not talk about white owned companies which sell bleaching cream as the Oscar winning Kenyan actress is owned by white companies that pay her.
Dencia then let her critics know that she won’t be losing any money for attacking Nyong’o on social media.
While Nyong’o fans have responded to Dencia’s tweets to defend the actress and found themselves at the receiving end of Dencia’s ire, Nyong’o has not responded to the attack, instead enjoying Oscars success and posting selfies with new bff Rihanna from Paris Fashion Week.
The letter which has enraged Dencia is as follows:
“‘Dear Lupita,’ it reads. ‘I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me.
“My heart bled a little when I read those words. And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shame in black beauty.”
Nyong’o said her “heart bled a little” when she read those words and she said she hopes she can continue to encourage young women to embrace their black beauty.by
