FKA twigs (real nameTahliah Barnett), the alternative girl du jour, has got the Vogue seal of approval for her individual style. The Gloucestershire native appears in the January issue of Vogue photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.
“Her architecturally designed braids and gelled curls have been jettisoned in favor of beautifully tousled dreads, and in addition to playing the biggest concerts of her life, twigs is navigating the practical challenges of her relationship with very-famous-person Robert Pattinson, who will pick her up from the set a few hours later,” is how Vogue talks about the 26-year-old who is well known for her single “Two Weeks”.
“Sometimes I really struggle having my picture taken,” twigs tells Vogue but if the Demarchelier images are anything to go by, she is already a pro at vogueing.
Speaking of her quirky style, twigs says, “A few years ago I found out that there’s a lot of Gypsy blood on my mother’s side. I’m wild in that way—I’ve been brought up to do my own thing.”
The Brit girl know for her breathy R&B style, artistic videos and sensual dancing credits street style influences in shaping her personal style.
“You have to give a part of yourself to a particular culture rather than just borrow [inspiration] from it or enjoy looking cool because you’re there,” says the star who recently attended the Mugler Ball in Astoria, Queens with boyfriend Pattinson, where she vogued down the runway with the best of them, finishing with aplomb in what’s known as a death drop.
Multi-skilled and with a unique sense of style, it seem FKA twigs will be the one to watch for 2015.
