“Love the skin you’re in” with a little help from Lupita Nyong’o and Elmo. Just as we are admiring Lupita’s flawless skin and lusting after her beauty essentials, the beautiful actress pays a visit Sesame Street to give young viewers a crucial message about loving the skin you’re in.
The ‘Mexi-Kenyan’ (a term to define her heritage coined by Lupita) actress joined Muppet Elmo to teach kids about the importance of skin.
“Skin comes in lots of beautiful shades and colours,” Nyong’o says after Elmo notices that hers is a “beautiful, brown colour.”
This of course is not the first time the 12 Years a Slave actress opened up about skin issues and insecurities about her dark skin growing up. After receiving People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Person award in April, Lupita said, “”What an incredible journey to go from that feeling to being on the cover of this magazine. I mean, you could have never told me that that would happen when I was 16 and insecure about my complexion.”
Earlier this year, at the 7th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Lupita also talked openly about her insecurities growing up as a dark-skinned girl.
More recently Lupita joined Cicely Tyson, Pauletta Washington and others to share intimate insights about what her beautiful dark skin means to her for the new publication ‘Dark Girls’ by Bill Duke and Sheila P. Moses.
Check out the actress in Sesame Street. Don’t you just love how she sets a brilliant example to kids and helping them love the skin they are in?
