FAB Spotlight: Lucien Freud by Olumide S Akingbade.

Artist Lucien Freud died last Friday at age 88. The painter passed away at his London home after an illness. He lived to paint and painted until the day he died, far removed from the noise of the art world.

Freud was one of the top artists of his generation, known for his realist portraits that often depicted nudes. He painted model Kate Moss in 2002, while she was pregnant, and one of his artworks, depicting a new woman on a couch sold for £20.6 million. Freud was the grandson of Sigmund Freud, the psychoanalyst, and the elder brother of broadcaster Clement Freud.

Brett Gorvy at Christie’s auction house says: ‘He is considered one of the most important painters of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Here are a few of his treasures.
