Banky W and WizKid, South African rapper L-Tido and Bonie from P-Unit (Kenya) have been commissioned to write and perform the title track for Shuga: Love, Sex, Money.
Shuga is an advocacy project, conceived with the aim of spreading the message of responsible sexual behavior and tolerance among Africa’s youth. It is produced by MTV Networks Africa in conjunction with MTV Staying Alive foundation, PEPFAR and the partnership for a HIV-Free Generation (HFG). Funded heavily by PEPFAR, the programme tries to fit as much as possible into Kenya’s existing HIV prevention campaign.
Banky W and WizKid are also making cameo appearances in the TV drama alongside Nairobi-based Nigerian Ikubese Emmanuel (a.k.a. 9con) and Kenyan singer Avril. Other artists to feature in the atmospheric soundtrack to Shuga: Love, Sex, Money include Camp Mulla, Flavour, P-Square, Wyre, STL, Madtraxx, J Martins, Sasha, Stella Mwangi and many others.
The title song for “Shuga: Love, Sex, Money” will debut on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) on Tuesday 14 February 2012. The track will be available for download free of charge on the Shuga website (www.shuga.tv).
Shot on location in Nairobi between August-September of 2011, Shuga airs on MTV Base from Valentines day, Tuesday 14, February and runs through 27 March,2012.
The red carpet premiere of Shuga: Love, Sex & Money will take place in Nairobi on 10 February 2012.
