Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, was on Thursday brought before Abuja’s Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with N15 million fraud.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Chijoke Okezie, had told the court that on Aug. 8, one Habiba Abubakar wrote an appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IG) to investigate the scam.

When digging deeper into the case, Okezie, revealed that Jim Iyke, a resident of Sunnyville Estate, Abuja, had in fact deceived Abubakar into acquiring 15 per cent equity shares to the tune of N15 million from his company, Untamed Records Ltd.

Okezie stated how Iyke admitted that the complainant had paid the money into his Oceanic Bank account No. 00500173691, deviating from his initial plan of investment and converted the money to his personal use.

He added that when the Habiba confronted Jim Iyke, he resorted to beating and threatening to kill her.

Okezie then went on to say how Iyke, best known for his ‘bad boy’ roles in movies, was charged with criminal breach of trust, criminal force, assault, cheating and criminal misappropriation which contravened sections 312,265,322 397 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Esther Uzoma, an adviser to Jim Iyke made an oral bail application for the accused in pursuit of section 341(2) of the Criminal Procedural Code.

She asked the court to grant Iyke’s bail on liberal terms and for self-recognition,  and promising that the he would not miss it.

However, Okezie objected to the bail application, saying that the investigation into the case was not yet completed, and that criminal breach of trust was not normally billable.

Chief Magistrate, Okeagu Azubike, said that the bail application had merit and granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

However, Azubike had warned the sureties to behave like responsible Nigerians and return back to the court in due time.

Azubike adjourned the case to 9th December to allow the police complete their investigations.
