As we know, Whitney tragically died in February after accidentally drowning in a bathtub and taking cocaine at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The annual VH1 Divas concert has paid homage in the past to legends such as Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross.
According to Billboard, a show to honour Whitney will be taped in December in Los Angeles. It has been confirmed that the late singer’s life-long musical director, Rickey Minor, will take on a executive producer role.VH1 president Tom Calderone said:
“We all felt that if any show could pay tribute to Whitney’s music, it would be ‘Divas,’”
“December felt like enough time where it wouldn’t be sad anymore, you’d want to celebrate her music.”
The soul diva made appearance on the show herself three times in 1999, 2002, and 2003. So far no artists have been confirmed to take part in the tribute but we will keep you posted.
