For those of you that have been wondering what’s next for the popular producer/artiste, Michael Collins AKA Don Jazzy since his break up from D’banj and label, Mo’Hits, it is apparent that he is now ready to start building a new music empire. The ‘post Mo’Hits’ era sees Don Jazzy launching his new independent record label, Mavin Records. The record label would be a new home for former Mo Hits stars like Wande Coal, Dr. Sid, D’Prince and the addition of popular singing sensation, Tiwa Savage.
For the past three weeks, the CEO, Mavin Records have been working non-stop in the studio on the production of the label’s debut album, titled Solar Plexus which would be released on the 8th of May. In the new album, each of the ‘Mavins’ gets their single and there is also an overall anthem to go with it.
Apparently, Don Jazzy would be retaining all original Mohits stars except for K-Switch who understandably would be going on with his brother, D’banj.
Don Jazzy, the once producer of the musical power house, Mo’hits was the brains behind the production for some of Nigerian biggest music and music videos. Artistes like D’banj, K-Switch, D’prince, Wande Coal and Dr Sid were able to launch themselves into stardom from the Mohits platform. The Mo’hit All Stars as they were called, also came together every once in a while to produce awesome hits like Pere and Booty Call.
Wande Coal who got signed into Mohits records in 2006 and released his debut album “Mushin 2 Mohits”, released in 2009 has since then grown to be one of the biggest names in Nigerian music industry . His recent singles, like ‘Private Trips‘, ‘Go Low‘ and ‘It’s been long you saw me‘ have got everyone buzzing with anticipation for his upcoming album.
D’prince also burst into the limelight as a part of he Mo’hits all stars in 2007 and since then, he’s been presenting us with hits such as ‘Close to you‘ and ‘Give it to me‘ which featured some of the other Mo’hits crew.
Son of Nollywood legend, Justus Esiri, Dr Sid featured on the Mo Hits Allstars Curriculum vitae album released in 2007. His debut album “Turning Point” was released in 2010, the album feature Hit singles; something about you, Winchi winchi, Over the moon and Pop Something.
Singer, Tiwa Savage’s addition to the Mavin crew is perhaps as exciting as the launch of the label itself. The female music sensation has previously featured Don Jazzy in the love song, ‘Without my Heart‘ which got everyone speculating and looking forward to more collaborations. Well, it certainly looks like we might be getting to see more of that.
With the dissolution of Mo’Hits since agreed with D’Banj, Don Jazzy has high ambitions for the new label which he anticipates will soon be “the power house of music in Africa.” He called on all his fans and well-wishers to get behind the new project for what he promises will be a “very exciting journey.”
Here is a message from Don Jazzy himself;
I see Mavin Records being the power house of Music in Africa in the shortest possible time. I know Rome wasn’t built in a day but with a lot of hard work, a good and God fearing team, our friends and fans, TV houses, radio stations, press, bloggers and most of all with God on our side, there is nothing we cannot achieve.
I definitely won’t forget my past because I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I know there are questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved, wounds to heal but I would really appreciate if we allow time to heal the wounds for us all instead of digging them up again.
I love and respect the press and bloggers a lot and believe they will play a major role in healing our wounds and allow the forward movement. I would love to thank everyone that contributed in making Mohits records as successful as it got. We wouldn’t have done it without you all. The love and support you have given us thus far is definitely not in vain. You all helped create international superstars and none of us will let you down.
It is going to be a very exciting journey from here. I can’t wait to show you guys all we have planned for you all. We have some other Mavins that are not activated yet still under construction that I’m positive you are going to love. Please open up your hearts, lend us your ears, give us your love and support as always and let’s continue to entertain you. Please don’t forget to visit. www.mavinrecords.com and join the fan club “MAVIN LEAGUE” for exclusive news, music and gifts.
