“Freedom” is the latest Spring/Summer 2012 collection from UK based Ghanaian designer Abena Adjeiwaah who begun designing at the age of ten and was inspired by both a fixation for black and white movies and being constantly surrounded by various beautiful African print fabrics which were sold by her mother.
Fashion to Adjeiwaah is ultimately about self expression and taking risks. Therefore she has produced a line dedicated to the younger generation of today, stating to be fearless an experience a liberation to break free from the chains of restriction and feel confident to stand out and embrace diversity and not feel obligated to conform. Each design is a statement piece described as an adventurous merge of tribal retro glam with a deliberate use of neon vivid palettes.
The House of Adjeiwaah is a contemporary women’s clothing line which launched in 2011 delivering an electrifying synthesis of African and Western inspired garments. Offering a selection of uniquely designed attire described as a concoction of varied trends all moving away from tradition ranging from eclectic funky, to provocative and edgy but then also including softer pieces rich in both opulence and sophistication. The designer first showcased at African Fashion Week London 2011 and taken part in other shows such as Fashions Finest Renaissance Show, Fashionmist and has gone on to dress contestant for various beauty pageants such as, “ACS Kings and Queens 2011” “Miss Ghana UK 2011” and contestants of “Miss Black Africa UK 2011”. This designer was also given the honor of closing the first annual Ghana UK Fashion Show 2011.
The brand has been selected for photo shoots to advertise major events such as reality fashion programme “Uber Africa” and “Project Walkway Ghana”. Kencar Magazine based in Ghana invited Adjeiwaah to showcase at a very exclusive and private fashion show for the launch of Actor Prince David Osei’s clothing line. The designer also showcased at the Mplaza Hotel in Accra for the first ever Ghana Fashion Awards 2011 and received rave reviews from both these events. Adjeiwaah has also personally been requested to dress two of Ghana’s hottest female rappers Tiffany and Lousika.
The House of Adjeiwaah was nominated last year for a Nigeria UK based Achievement Award 2011 which was extremely flattering for the designer given the fact that she is of Ghanaian origin. The success of this designer has meant that she is to take up the role of head judge and the official designer for “Miss Black African Queen Switzerland 2012”; she will also sit on the judging panel for Top Model of Color 2012 and Miss Black Africa UK 2012. Adjeiwaah was approached to sell exclusive one off pieces from her range on the very popular luxurious afro clothing website StylesAfrik, but the main objective is for The House of Adjeiwaah to promote and preserve the empowerment ofBut the main objective is for The House of Adjeiwaah to promote and preserve the empowerment of today’s modern women and forever allow the wearer of her product to feel like a Queen.
