British-Nigerian designer Asake Oge of AsakeOge Couture has unveiled the lookbook photos for her Spring/Summer 2014 “Discovery” collection as well as launching an e-commerce site.
According to the brand, the ‘Discovery” collection is a story about the journey of life. It’s for the woman who is on the exciting journey of discovering who she is.
The collection features a lot of prints, sequins, and trends such as peplum details, sheer details and more. While we love this collection we are not totally convinced about it. It seems too busy and not a lot of pieces can be transferred into everyday outfits which we are big on. We love the creativity of the prints as they are mostly African prints but the pieces in itself aren’t anything out of the ordinary in terms of shapes and designs.
We however love this strengthening poem that accompanies the collection and description of the Asake Oge woman”
She has no limitations except those which she sets for herself.
She has no boundaries.
She makes no apologies for who she is.
She is confident.
She wants to make a statement.
She wants to make an entrance.
She is the ethos of the AsakeOge woman.
A woman who realises she can set the trend rather than follow them.
She is not afraid to be different because that difference is uniquely hers.
She has perfected the balance of leaping over boundaries and staying classy.
She discovers she’s not just a star, she’s the sun, with all it’s fierceness, brightness and warmth.
She is becoming the AsakeOge woman, a trendsetter, not a fashion follower.
According to the designer, each dress from the collection has been named after African women and Queens in history who discovered purpose and are remembered in present times.
