The question on your mind after reading the shocking headline above should be the same as mine, ‘How the hell did that happen?’ However, it did happen last Saturday at the FNB Stadium in South Africa as the American R&B star Brandy Norwood performed to a mere 40-man audience!
Brandy was billed to performer for the Mandela Sports and Culture Day but the event and the experience she was hoping to take away from the event went horribly wrong.
The FNB stadium reportedly has a capacity for 90,000 people and had been filled all day but when the singer arrived on stage to perform, it was empty. South African music act Kabomo tweeted “Brandy (just) performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off.”
Kabomo later went on to confirm that nobody knew she was going to perform. Now I know why saving a surprise act for such an event could go bad and hope the organisers find a way to compensate the hurt singer as we learnt that her performance was also cut out of the televised broadcast of the event. The country’s national TV station, SABC ended their coverage just before she performed.
