Last week Thursday, 29 November 2012, before I jetted off to Lagos, I had the pleasure of attending The Noisettes’ album launch for their third album Contact at the trendy and opulent Baroque in Mayfair.
We were treated not only to the coconut flavoured cocktail aptly named The Noisette Cocktail created by The Noisettes aka Shingai Shoniwa and Dan Smith, Barouq Surf and Turf Platters (which consist of mini lobster rolls and hamburgers served with fries and truffle oil infused ketchup – yumm!) but also an intimate 45-minute gig which featured old hits and new offerings.
Shingai was fab and flawless as always in a gold sequin gown with fringe detail and a big metal hoop she wore over her dress but beyond the fashion forward look she sported it was her enchanting voice I was mesmerised by. While seated close to the stage we may have lost sight of the diminutive singer for the hordes of people surrounding the tiny stage blocking our view, that powerful voice meant seeing her was not a big deal as long as you had ears to enjoy yet another striking vocal performance.
