FAB: FULL NAME

Dave: David Tobenna Onyedike

FAB: COUNTRY  OF RESIDENCE

Dave: Nigeria

FAB: GENERAL PROFESSION AND NON-PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

Dave: Professional Makeup artist….I also love fashion designing and I do that by the side and have plans of going into it full time soon.

FAB: MAKEUP BACKGROUND(a list of qualifications in Makeup if you have any and where you studied makeup artistry – if you did)

Dave: I’m actually a self-taught makeup artist. I discovered my love and passion for arts when I was really young, and I played with a lot of colours, and anything pretty. I eventually studied Theatre arts at the University of Nigeria Nsukka where I majored in costume and makeup. I did not undergo any major training in makeup, but at some point I assisted Bayo Hastrup whenever i was on holidays, and that helped me to brush up my skills.

FAB: WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOU WANTED TO BE A MAKEUP ARTIST

Dave: I served as a copper with MUD Cosmetics and it was an amazing experience. It was during my service days that I made up my mind to be a full time professional makeup artist because I was excelling in the art and my passion for every other profession but makeup artistry died.

FAB: WHY MAKEUP? WHY NOT ANOTHER FASHION CAREER?

Dave: Well I chose makeup because it is easier to break even into the industry if u are well skilled, focused and talented. Your works will speak for you unlike fashion designing which is a more difficult industry to break into.

FAB: WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHTS?(something that has stood out for you through your  work so far).

Dave: My career highlights are rising to he post of head of programs and makeup at MUD Cosmetics and of course winning  the FAB Makeup Artist of the Year 2011.

Recieving his FAB Award at FNO 2011

FAB: HOW DID YOU FEEL WINNING THAT?

Dave: It was actually an amazing experience. Winning the FAB makeup artist of the year has catapulted my career to a whole new higher and exciting level. The name David Onyedike is almost a household name in the makeup industry and a force 2 reckon with. I am most grateful to God, my family, friends and clients who voted 4 me, and also to the FAB team for recognizing my works.

FAB: OTHER MAKEUP ARTISTS YOU ADMIRE/APPRECIATE

Dave: Internationally, I admire Bobbi Brown and Sam Fine. Locally, I admire and respect Bayo Hastrup and BankeMeshida Lawal.

FAB: YOUR MAKEUP SKILLS IN A NUTSHELL(5 words to describe your work/style of makeup)

Dave: Natural, clean, flawless, creative and timeless.

FAB: DAVID ONYEDIKE(a description of your ideal client, who they are)

Dave: My ideal client is that bold and fearless woman who is not scared of showcasing her hidden beauty….

FAB: HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH MAKEUP IDEAS?

Dave: I get my ideas and inspiration from things around me. There can range from the colours of a house, plants, sea, sky etc.

FAB: MAKEUP SIGNATURES(the things you do in your makeup that is signature to you and your work only).

Dave: People say my makeup signature is my eyebrows. I think i agree  with them. Some call it the Davids eyebrow. I have a fetish for well defined and perfect eyebrows, and that is why i can spend the better part of my time doing my clients eyebrows to make sure it is well defined and perfect.

FAB: MAKEUP BRANDS YOU MAINLY WORK WITH.

Dave: I work with  MUD Cosmetic brand. Every product I use, be it primer, powder, foundation etc is all MUD.

FAB: YOUR FAVORITE WORK SO FAR and why.

Dave: My favorite look so far is the  Avant Garde look(below) I created on Goldie for her ”Don’t touch my body” video. It took me almost two hours to create that award winning look. Anytime I look at that video, I always have this feeling of fulfillment and pride in me.

FAB: MOST WELL-KNOWN PERSON/CELEBRITY YOU HAVE MADE UP TO DATE.

Dave: Genevive Nnaji is one of the biggest celebrites I have made up till date.

Yes, that’s my tutor, thumbs up…. He is the definition of makeup artistry itself. The first time I met him, I just made up my mind that even if I don’t learn anything, apart from how to define brows, I’ll be fulfilled and he did justice that. Thanks
