Being the FAB fashionistas we are, we are always on the look for a little bit of fashion in everything we lay our eyes on. Hence, when everyone’s eyes were on Usain Bolt and The Queen during the opening ceremonies for London 2012 Olympic Games, we couldn’t help but rate the athetes on style stakes.
Here are some of our favourite looks from the athletes parade.
First up, our favourite look (above) comes from Togo and their verdant wax print shirts. Talk of dressing up in style and repping a bit of African print. We wouldn’t mind being on the Togolese team – or better yet, having their designer on speed dial.
No doubt Team Senegal know how to light up a stadium and steal the show. Their outfits were anything but mellow yellow. This team’s certainly going for gold, at least in style wars.
Burundi posed a double dare to all other nations – not only did the men look dapper in ochre kaftans, the ladies rocked gorgeous print wraps in complimentary green and brown. We want one too!
Nigeria kept it nice and simple but totally patriotic in these green and white ensembles. Dance moves optional!

Cameroon repped their colours of yellow, red and green too, but in much more intricate detailing. Result? Some kaleidoscopic patterned kaftans and hats. We approve!
The team may be small, but Sao Tome kept the style top notch with the pristine white tops and dark green print skirts. Let’s not forget the on-trend clashing print wrap hung loose over the shoulder.
Let’s hope not only the above six but all other African countries participating do as well in competitions as they did on the opening parade.
