Remember SCHEFO – the New York and Ghana-based charity we featured in our Power Issue aiming to support Liberia refugee women in Ghana through fair trade and entrepreneurial skills? Since the last time they have been fashionably busy to raise more awareness and funds and the result of their efforts comes in the shape of Sankofa, A Fashion Affair. New York University’s African Students Union has partnered with NYU’s African Law Association, Columbia University, St John’s University, City College, Baruch College, John Jay, and NYU Wagner to host a city wide fashion show.
Sankofa: A Fashion Affair will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 7:30pm to 10pm at the NYU Law School’s Vanderbuilt Hall (40 Washington Square South – Greenberg Lounge), which will feature 8 designers and showcase a variety of performers from the New York City area. The show will be emceed by Africa’s very own Foxy P, and dj’d by Philly’s DJ Afrik!
NYU’s African Students Union aims to make this a community event, bringing people of all backgrounds together to celebrate African tradition, with a modern twist.
Tickets are $7 dollars in advance at NYU’s Ticket Central (566 LaGuardia Place) and $10 at the door. All proceeds from the show will be donated to SCHEFO and Indego Africa, two organizations that specialize in fair trade fashion.
