The iHeartRadio Music Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on May 1 marked the first-ever edition of NBC’s newest live awards show. The event was recorded to be an entertaining and eventful exciting star-studded event. Check out all our highlights below:
Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Ray Cyrus stood in for his sick daughter Miley Cyrus who won the award for Best Lyrics for her huge hit ‘Wrecking Ball’.
Miley, according to reports is currently recovering from a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics which compelled her to put her Bangerz tour on hold. Billy Ray told Miley’s fans: “I can’t begin to tell you how much your thoughts, your love, and your support for my family and Miley mean to all of us. Thank you, and God bless each and every one of you.”
His emotional speech moved the crowd as they cheered him off the stage. Get well soon Miley we can’t wait for more drama!
The official premiere of the long-awaited single from the late legend Michael Jackson’s new album Xscape was performed for the very first time as Usher danced to the ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ tune at the award show.
Watch Usher’s performance below:
The Yours Truly singer gave a different performance from the regular as she stripped off the long-sleeved gown for something more adult and sexy in a black sequined dress, which looked more scandalous paired with the knee-high white boots.
Just like her outfit, her moves in the second half of her performance were also more grown-up and racy.
Rihanna’s acceptance speech for Best Fan Army moved the crowd. Since it was really the Rihanna Navy who had won the award, she thanked them accordingly:
“This award is for the fans, as they said. It’s not easy, what we do. It’s very difficult at times. It’s a lot of pressure to be a lot of things, and I’ve never felt comfortable being anything other than myself, and I just thank my fans for being supportive, and embracing that, embracing that freedom and that liberation, and we’re a family. We stick together. I love you guys.” […] “When [artists] think about the fans and the people who support us, that’s’ what keeps us going. So, Rihanna Navy, I love you, congratulations, thank you! Navy or die!”
Rihanna won a total of four awards including the coveted Artist Of The Year. Congratulations RiRi.
Pharrell Williams as expected was honoured with the iHeart Innovator award and it was so lovely to watch top artists like Beyonce and Usher as well as Oprah praise the global superstar for his outstanding talent. The brand new coach for The Voice complemented the ceremony. On receiving the award, he thanked his wife Helen Lasichanh and his son Rocket:
“I never dreamed in a million, million, million years that, as a producer, I’d be standing here as an artist… all I did was write the songs, and you guys did all the heavy lifting, all the hard work, all those billions of views on TouTube, all that calling in… thank you guys for lifting me so high! Thank you guys so, so much.”
He put on an incredible show as he sang to his epic hit ‘Happy’ and ‘Come Get It Bae’ with his miniature cute hat.
