Let me start by wishing our FAB readers a happy new month. Now isn’t it just the most exciting feeling knowing the month is starting on a weekend, what a FAB way to kick off the last month of the year, right? A lot of awesome events have been lined up for the month, as expected, but we had better take it one weekend at a time lest we pass out from all the excitement. Here are the events that are guaranteed to educate, entertain, inspire and Wow you this weekend. Enjoy.


FILM: African and The Diaspora Series curated by Mudi Yahaya- LAGOS.

On Thursday, December 01, 2011 The Life House presents ends their 3-part African and The Diaspora Series with an even bigger blast. Africa and The Diaspora Series is directed by acclaimed artist, Mudi Yahaya. Reel Life over the past few weeks has screened a selection of films dealing with African stories (Anglophone,Francophone, Lusaphone and Arabic) of existing and hybridized issues, topics and identities within Africa and the African diaspora.

They end the series with 2000 Moroccan Crime Drama “Ali Zauoa: Prince Of The Streets” followed by Senegalese adaptation of the classic opera, Carmen “KARMEN GEI”

Admission is free. The film starts by 7:00pm. The Life House is located at 33 Sinari Daranijo Street, Off Younis Bashorun Street, Off Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.



The Life House also presents a screening of Al Jazeera film,‘Burma Boy’ (50 mins) followed by a discussion and Q+A session on Saturday, 3rd December at 4:00pm. They have as guests, both the film maker, Al Jazeera correspondent Barnaby Phillips and 85year old war veteran, Isaac Fadayebo whose memoirs the film is based on.

In honor of this extra special film screening, Kachifo Limited will also have representatives on hand with extra copies of Biyi Bandele’s acclaimed novel, Burma Boy, for sale.


In Conversation with…Doyin Teriba: The Lives of Popo Aguda Builders – LAGOS

In the 1800s Lagos hosted large numbers of Afro Brazilians who returned to Africa to create a thriving community of builders and masons. Their impact on Lagos architecture remains visible in several parts of Lagos as well as in other parts of West Africa. Another edition of The Life House In Conversation series explores Afro-Brazilian architecture with architect and researcher Adedoyin Teriba. His presentation will show evidence he has collected from Brazil, the United States, Nigeria and Benin Republic so far. This event will take place at The Life House on Friday, 2nd December, it starts at 4:00pm.  Admission is FREE.


In Conversation with…Victor Ehikhamenor: EXCUSE ME! – LAGOS

This Sunday, 4TH December, The Life House welcomes a favorite, Victor Ehikhamenor as part of their new speaker series, In Conversation With, in which we engage the keenest minds at the intersection of issues that feed their creativity and impact our world. During a discussion moderated by writer and blogger, Wana Udobang, Victor Ehikhamenor will share insights on his inspiration for his non-fiction writing and the creative process. Event starts at 6:00pm.


THEATRE….at its spontaneous best – LAGOS

After two very successful editions of Open-Mic Theatre, it’s exciting to know that the third edition is just a few days away.  For this edition (The Christmas edition), the theme is ‘Nigerian Theatre Classics’ and performers would be required to do excerpts from any Nigerian classics of their choice.

The Life House is glad to present the performers for the evening: Kate Henshaw, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Wale Ojo, OC Ukeje, Najite Dede, Omonor Somolu, Paul Alumona, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, Uzo Osimkpa, Omoye Uzamere, Kenneth Uphopho and last but not least the host and Open-Mic whiz, Lala Akindoju. Recognizing African Excellence and Achievement- LAGOS

Leymah Gbowee

The Winner of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, Leymah Gbowee will have a public lecture for young Nigerians with the theme, “Making a difference in crisis: An inspiration for young Africans”. The lecture takes place at The Incubator, Victoria Island Lagos, on Friday, 2nd December between 11:00am and 3:00pm.
