Nigerian Idol has become a leading reality show in the country. The music show which is in its 3rd season is produced by Optima Media Group (OMG) and is packaged not only to thrill Nigerians but to give credibility to the voices of unheard music talents.
The 3rd season was launched on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Shaba Events Centre, Ikeja, Lagos. The launch witnessed outstanding performances by past winners Mercy from season 1, and runners-up for the both seasons: Naomi, Stephen and Joe Blue. The launch also took a beautiful twist of events as Press Idol engaged memebers of the media in a music competition. The prizes were $1,000; $500 and $200 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Also Dance Na Tha Main Thing (DNTMT) involoved display of lively performances.
Nigerian Idol will hit the Federal Capital city, Abuja on Saturday, 13th of October, 2012 at the Rockview Royal Hotel. Auditions will start for 7am.
As is tradition of the Idol show, concerts with the industry’s leading performers will be staged in every audition city to entertain contestants.
Nigerian Idol is sponsored by gigantic telecommunications company, Etisalat and is supported by leading beverage company, Pepsi and Megalectrics. It has a panel of really exciting judges: Jeffrey Daniels, (late Michael Jackson‘s personal choreographer), soul diva, Yinka Davies and Charly Boy.
The prize for this season is a whooping 7.5 million Naira, a recording contract worth 7.5 million Naira and a SUV.
The global franchise is responsible for having produced influential music stars like Jennifer Hudson, Reuben Studdard, Nigeria’s Yeka (whose career has taken flight with the release of 2 successful singles – Follow You and Bamijo) and Mercy, who currently performs on various live stages.
Note for intending contestants
- Log unto the website: www.nigerianidol/registration to fill the online form
- Send an SMS from your Etisalat number with your full name and preferred audition city to 5599. This is to confirm your audition location.
- Come along with your EtisalatSMS confirmation, a printed copy of your application form and 2 passport photographs.
For residents of Aba, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa, join the auditions in Port Harcourt on the 20th of October, 2012.
Residents of Anambra, Enugu, Abia and other neighbouring states are to join in the Owerri auditions on the 27th of October.
Delta, Ife, Ilorin residents – and neighbouring cities – are to meet up with the Benin auditiions on the 3rd of November.
Peradventure you miss out on all the dates and audition venues, be sure to be at the Bamako Studios in Lagos on the 9th and 10th of November.

The auditions have been extended to 5 (instead of the initial 4) cities to give opportunity for more people to participate. The cities include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin and Owerri.
