Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is the first movie star to be awarded with the prestigious Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts Awards 2012 (BEFFTA) ‘Film Icon Award’ for her unparalleled roles in her career and for putting out her best in being involved in helping society by the non-profit organizations she supports.
The award was presented to Omotola by PR Executive Theodora Ibekwe at London’s leading film studios East End Studios. Although she wasn’t at the event to receive the award, she expressed her profound gratitude to BEFFTA, fans and her family. She described it as the best award she had received on a global level.
Omotola dedicated the award to her team and producers she’s worked with since 1995 but most especially to her loving husband, Captain Mathew Ekeinde. ‘Most especially I want to dedicate this to my husband who is always standing by me and my children. I just want to say thank you and God bless you’, Omotola blushed in between smiles.
The actress also stressed that “It is such an honor and I’m truly humbled that 16 years of my work in the film industry has been rewarded in a special way internationally. There are so many people to thank for bringing me to this level, special thanks goes to my husband for always being there, everyone that I have worked with but most importantly my fans. I love my fans so much, they are very supportive“.
One of the high profile personalities who have presented with the award is Sir Trevor McDonald Obe for the Lifetime Achievement category.
