Hot on the heels of the Oscars nominations, Brit Awards nominees list has just been released and Scottish/Zambian songstress who ruled the UK charts in 2012 leads the race with nominations for Best British Female Solo Artist, Best Album for Our Version Of Events and two nominations in the Best Single category, for ‘Next To Me’ and ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’, the Labrinth song to which she lent her rather lovely vocal chords.

It is safe to say 2012 has been Emeli’s year. Not only has she had the best selling album of the year, but she has also had a summer of Olympic proportions performing at both the opening and closing ceremonies for the London Games.

Emeli celebrated with a tweet saying, “To everyone that’s been there since the critics choice and years before that THANK YOU!!!”

Hot on the heels of Miss Sande with four nominations are Mumford and Sons.

rita_britRita Ora and Mercury Music prize-winning band Alt-J both struck with three nominations each while One Direction received two nominations, for Best British Group and Best Performers. Muse, Paloma Faith, Plan B and Jessie Ware also got two nominations each.

The category likely to see most competition is Best British Single with Oscar nominee Adele pitched against Coldplay, Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks, Robbie Williams, Olly Murs and The X Factor’s James Arthur.

The most poignant nomination is for Amy Winehouse whose album Lioness: Hidden Treasures was released posthumously last year – received a nomination in the Best British Female category.

The ceremony set for 20 February will see performances by One Direction, Robbie Williams, Muse, Mumford and Sons, Ben Howard and Emeli Sande.
