The 20th Fifa World Cup heads to Brazil between 12 June and 13 July 2014 and we are looking forward to an African team getting to the Semi final, if not bringing the cup back to Africa. As much as we have expectations for African teams we look forward to seeing African players make their names too.
Let’s meet the top 11 players we look forward to seeing play at the world cup.
Yaya Touré is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for English club Manchester City and the Ivory Coast national team. Yaya who won African player of the year 2013 and also a successful injury free season at Manchester City is liked and will be watched because of his dynamic attack minded play style.

Born March 11, 1978, the 36 year old is the captain and all-time top scorer of the Ivory Coast national team. He said to be Africa’s best attacker, this is also said to be his final world cup appearance so we are really looking forward to what marks he would leave behind.
This 27 year old is commonly known as John Mikel Obi plays as a midfielder for English club Chelsea FC and the Nigeria national team. Lots of Chelsea FC supports still believe he has a lot to offer in the World Cup, but we can only hope.
Ogenyi Eddy Onazi plays as a central midfielder for Serie A club Lazio and the Nigeria national football team. He really wants to see him at the World Cup by Nigerian supporters to know if he can outsmart Mikel Obi in the Midfield….*Shrugs* a little competition amongst peers won’t hurt nobody right?
Cameroonian footballer Samuel Eto’o is still a crucial player for Les Lions Indomptables of Cameroon which is his national team, also he did wonderfully well in the 2010 World Cup and we are looking forward to seeing him do better in this 2014 World Cup.
Though he has been on the bench for the better half of the season if not all in Chelsea FC we still think he can do well seeing he did great at the African Cup of Nations in 2012
He plays for Al Ain of the UAE Pro-League which is a not so “Big Team” Ghanians still look forward to him leading The Black Stars of Ghana as far as possible into the World Cup.
31years old Vincent currently plays for Lille OSC who he signed for in June 2011 and he is really good at his game, he is one of the very few we can boast about in the Nigerian national team also he has had an injury free season at Lille OSC.
Emmanuel Emenike plays as a striker for Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Super Lig. He is known to be strong, fast and prolific with the ball, many Nigerians are vouching as the player that will score Nigeria’s first goal at the world cup. We hope so too.
Osaze Odemwingie plays as a striker for Premier League club Stoke City and though he has been on the bench half the season like Victor Moses he is dedicated to the game and he is a sure goal supplier for the Nigerian team at the World Cup.
Better known as Alex Song, this Cameroonian footballer plays for FC Barcelona in La Liga and the Cameroon national team. He plays as a central or defensive midfielder, and can also play as a central defender. Africans are looking forward to see him play at the World Cup as to judge if lack of playing time at FC Barcelona has had a positive or negative effect on him.
