Nia Long does not seem to age a day. The actress covered the April issue of Essence magazine and talked about her latest film, Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club which saw her working alongside her 13-year-old son Massai.
In the cover story of Essence‘s April issue, the actress opens up about working with her son and hoping he would get the role after the auditions.
“I was so nervous Massai wouldn’t get the job. I didn’t want to have to break disappointing news, so I explained to him that as long as he gave it his best that’s all that mattered,” Long said. “I also told him that life has highs and lows, wins and losses. Just as I was saying all this, the phone rang. It was my agent with the good news. We did the happy dance and started packing our bags.”
The 43-year-old mother of two who doesn’t have a nanny also and says she feels “like a clown half the time” also added the experience helped her spend more time with her family.
“I’m not a movie star mom who’s got a private chef, a nanny and a driver,” says Long. “My mantra is, ‘You created this, you can handle it.’ I think that if you’re committed to being a great mother, single or not, you’re going to enjoy every moment you have with your children.”
Massai, it seems, was equally pleased to share screen time with Mum. “Filming The Single Moms Club was a lot of fun,” Massai wrote in an open letter to his mom on Essence. “It was awesome working with you, and I can’t imagine how hard it would have been if you weren’t there. Now I really understand how hard you work.”
At the Hollywood premiere of the movie, Nia once again proved she is one hot mama as she took to the red carpet with a plunging neckline and a daring slit to her figure hugging black gown.
We cannot wait to see mum and son on the big screen.Check out the trailer:
