Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re in for a hot date, like some of the ladies at FAB HQ it means the excitement is building up as you pick that perfect dinner date look, buff up your beauty regime and get your hair and nails in condition in time for the big red hot date.

Nothing says Valentine’s like a red hot lipstick and matching talons, so we were delighted to discover the brand new British brand Bad Apple and give their red nail varnish a test just in time for Valentine’s.

Bad Apple is a gel like nail varnish which comes in a trio of dynamic reds, Jelly Ruby Apple, Jelly Pink Apple, Jelly Red Apple, based on 70s cars such as the TVR, so you’re bound to find your favourite shade of red. But if red is not for you, don’t fret. Bad Apple offers a wide colour range from subdued nudes to more Gothic purple and black.

What’s more Bad Apple is one of the very few nail polish brands that don’t contain nasties like Parabens, Formaldehyde and Toluene, so not only do they paint your nails shiny, they keep your body healthy too.

While the brush is not the best, the application is a breeze, and if you’re a bit lazy like me when it comes to your beauty routine, the varnish so thick with such great consistency that you can get away with just one coat. To build up colour intensity and make your varnish last longer, I’d recommend two layers though. Leave the first coat for 8 minutes, and the second will dry quicker.

When I tried one coat, it started chipping after day 5, but the difference was clear when I tried on two coats, as instructed, and my nails were super sleek and glossy for 10 days. And I totally loved the fire engine red shade.

Not only is Bad Apple fab but at £6.95 for a 14ml bottle or £19.99 for set of 3 it is easy on the pocket too. No wonder it is already winning fans like British celebrity Kimberley Walsh. If it’s good enough for the ever so well groomed Kimberley, it is good enough for any Valentine’s date.
