A California middle school vice principal Joseph Defillipo was caught on 20-second  video saying, “I just don’t like black kids.” The school official was recorded making the racial remarks via a student’s mobile phone. The video was terminated abruptly after the comment.

Joseph Defillipo was reported to  be discussing with several Scandinavian Middle School students about the people he did not like at the school when he made the controversial statement which has caused an uproar of protests  from members of the Fresno school and the California community.

The video of the Fresno middle school vice principal saying, “I just don’t like black kids” was posted on YouTube on Friday and quickly went viral. Joseph Defillipo has been working in the education field for 18 years, employed by the Scandinavian Middle School since 2010.

He has since been sent on paid administrative leave.

The Scandinavian Middle School however has released their statement on the Joseph Defillipo “I don’t like black kids” video clip.

“Fresno Unified [school district] takes great pride in providing a positive learning environment for all students and staff. The interaction between the Scandinavian student and our employee has been brought to our attention and we are conducting an investigation. Fresno Unified takes this matter very seriously and we will take any necessary actions pending the results.”

Students at the Scandinavian Middle School have had mixed views over the incident but many as well as parents expressed their wish to see him fired for the racially biased remark. After the footage went online a lot of students  had it downloaded it onto their phones while repeating the comment and mocking the estranged Vice-principle. Some say it might have been a joke. But jokes are supposed to make people laugh as against this outcome. Others may argue that race may not have been intended to be the back bone of the statement but do you think so?

What do you think about the school official’s comments about ” not liking the black kids”?
