Super Sun Album Launch Concert @ SS Lounge Lagos, Sunday 24th July 2011

Have you experienced the Super Sun? Are you amongst those buzzing for Bez? You might have seen him perform on big stages; the Sax Appeal or supporting the likes of Angie Stone, Tuface, Asa and Nneka. When it comes to his own gigs, he likes to keep them up close and personal, like the cosy, SS lounge he chose to launch his album in on Sunday 24th July.

Two hours before the main show kicks off, the lounge’s plush sofas are already full with eager guests anticipating the arrival of the Super Sun. One would mistake the event for a dance rave, with the crowed just about visible in the dim space, sporting glow in the dark goggles, wrist and neck bands. Another hour and some signature, Super Sun cocktails later, the show is opened by Stan Iyke who beautifully sung a string of conscious melodies along with his ‘Love Quito’ track.

Following a heart-felt introduction by Cobhams Asuquo his album producer, Bez Idakula bursts on stage to face his screaming crowd with his five man band army. The SS lounge was full to capacity, with little to no distance between the crowd and the stage, but Bez needs no luminous accessory, he is the Super Sun his bright, yellow drum behind him tells us so. The funky, soul crooner from Jos, certainly gave his gagging guests what they have been longing for, performing all his fresh fusion of acoustics, afro-funk, soul, RnB & hip-hop, tracks off the album, back to back including the love song ‘Zuciya Daya’ (One Heart), ‘Stop Pretending’, the heart melting ‘More you’ and the feel good Super Sun which had Ice Prince jump on stage for the remix. He also gave us an amazing rendition of Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’. The night was a sure success, with Bez showing us just how well he can move, groove and rock all his too cool for school guitars. The Super Sun indeed shone brightly with the help of his sparkly blazer and kicks, courtesy of Mai Atafo. Bez is not just a star to be counted amongst the growing number of trail blazing musicians in Nigeria, he is unique, true to his art and talent and a charming, nice guy.

The Super Sun Album is out now.
