Kenyan model Malaika Firth became known after she appeared in the SS2014 Prada menswear show and in the Prada-fall 2013 campaign, which also featured Christy Turlington, Catherine McNeil,Cameron Russell, Freja Beha Erichsen, Fei Fei Sun and Rachel Williams and was shot by Steven Meisel. She became the first Black model in 19 years to score a Prada campaign at jut 19 years of age. She has since walked the runway for several high profile houses and was the face of Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. And when she was asked by Elle about what she thought about the fashion industry, her words were: “Change is coming”
Zimbawean model Nyasha Matonhodze emerged to limelight in her debut with luxury French fashion label Louis Vuitton’s 2011 autumn/winter campaign. She was 16 years old at the time.
Since then, Matonhodze has appeared in spreads for Harper’s Bazaar, Teen Vogue, and V magazine. She notably got the contract with Louis Vuitton, shot by renowned fashion photographer Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer.
Nyasha Matonhodze was also featured in the new Rihanna for River Island A/W 2013 campaign shoot.
In her words about the challenges of modelling she told New Zimbabwe: “If you’re not strong-minded, modeling can knock your confidence quite harshly. Every day you’re judged on your look, and more so today you’re judged on your personality.”
The 19 year old born in Dominican republic was the only afro in a line of 40 ponytails at Prada fall/winter 15 catwalk, Lineisy Montero had no inkling of the storm she was about to raise in Paris Fashion week.
