Back in November, as you may recall, we had the pleasure to interview Tuface, and while the Nigerian superstar was quiet happy to discuss all and sundry from his early days in music to his much publicised private life, he kept mum even when we pushed him about the rumours of a possible/potential collaboration or working partnership with international hip hop star of Senegalese descent Akon. “I don’t want to say much so as not to jinx anything but it will all be revealed soon,” he said at the time, before cracking a smile and adding, “No shaking!”
And all was finally revealed at Jay Jay Okocha’s Club 10 in Lagos this weekend. Akon is currently in Nigeria to launch a new energy drink called Citron which is set to hit the Nigerian market today. He made the statement he had signed Nigerian acts Wizkid, 2face, P-Square to his Konvict Music label in the presence of guests who included celebrities such as Genevieve Nnaji, Bryan Okwara, Susan Peters, Yolanda Okereke and many more.
Akon later took to Twitter to share the news with his followers as such (also sharing a photo of himself with Wizkid and Tuface):
Earlier in the year the singer had featured on a remix of Wizkid’s “Don’t dull” and was seen with Tuface back in June in Atlanta, Georgia.
Banky W, Nigerian R&b crooner and Wizkid’s mentor, also hinted at the big news as he tweeted ‘But!!!!! Last night was kinda epic. Bigups to the EMEazzyyy + Konvict Music runz. Shoutout to everyone that saw the evidence, adding ‘Last night was KINDA heavy…thank u to everybody that believed in and supported what we’ve been tryna do… Na God dey do am… God bless U real good!!!’.
Details of the deals are still sketchy as the Grammy Award winning act didn’t go into details but made it known that the signing had been done earlier. Phone calls placed to 2face’s management Now Muzik were not answered neither were text messages.
