And why shouldn’t Idris play Bond? We all wonder. Perhaps the rumor, all the social media rants and unwarranted side comments over whether he should get the role or not, did more harm than good to that possibility. Or at least Elba thinks so.
The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star told Hollywood Reporter when asked about the Bond role controversy: “Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself. If there was every any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone.”
Elba also confirmed that he’d never discussed with any Bond producers about playing the legendary figure.
He reiterated that it was former Bond actor Daniel Craig who triggered off the rumor four years ago when he said;
‘Idris Elba would be a great Bond’ and then it started to creep. I blame Daniel.”
Well, this certainly doesn’t sound good. We all looked forward to seeing a Black man play Bond for a change.
