From Croydon schoolgirl to fully-fledged fashion icon and supermodel extraordinaire Kate Moss has come a long way since she was famously spotted sitting atop a suitcase at JFK airport by Sarah Doukas. The English model rose to fame in the early 1990s – part of the heroin chic fashion trend and also noted for her controversial private life, high profile relationships, party lifestyle and drug use – Kate Moss has well and truly established herself as a pop culture and fashion figure of some sorts.
After appearing in a Steven Meisel Dolce & Gabbana shoot, legendary model-maker Patrick Demarchelier told colleagues that he hadn’t had such a strong feeling about a model since Twiggy – before he convinced Calvin Klein to sign Moss to an exclusive deal with the jeans brand in 1990 and a career in fashion was pretty much set in stone.
Almost 20 years later she’s been trough her fair share of romances, become a magazine editor, married and had a kid and the supermodel has her own collection of fragrances, has designed a hugely successful collection for Topshop and has legions of fans who routinely emulate her unique look.
From her seventies-style floppy hat(s) to her classic rock chick look and all black head to toe ensembles to her dressed down looks Kate Moss has a true sense of her individual style, bowing to no fashion rules, instead creating her own.
She’s got her go to looks that we’ve seen time and time again;
- her Raybans
- all black looks
- fur fur and more fur
- 90’s grunge
So what can we take from Britain’s top model’s style file? Keep it simple; give it your personality and dress to impress you! We commend Kate Moss’s style because it’s evolved but it has still always been her style.
