The first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out and it features none other than the British Nigerian actor John Boyega in the first few seconds. 88-second teaser gives a tantalising sneak peek of the film, the first new addition to the series since 2005.
Opening with a desert scene and a voice saying, “There has been an awakening, have you felt it?”, the trailer than shows Boyega in a Stormtrooper uniform before cutting to a football-like droid, a Stormtrooper army and fellow British star Daisy Ridley on a type of speeder bike.
The teaser also shows shots of the Millennium Falcon and offers Star Wars fans a first look of a new cross-shaped lightsaber. A hooded villain is shown walking through the woods in snow holding the new lightsaber.
Best known for playing Moses in the 2011 sci-fi film Attack the Block, Boyega Boyega was cast in the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book Half of a Yellow Sun released earlier this year.
The seventh instalment in the franchise, which reunites original stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. It is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December 2015.
