Fashion Weeks this season round have proven that come rain or shine fashionistas will forever look fashionable, and based on how cold t’s been this season from New York to London and Milan there’s been no other option than to let your outerwear do all the talking. So inpsired by the fact that coats could become an all year round trend (well depending on where in the world you are) or just a pain fashion statement, we rounded up some of our favourite coat trends that could transition from Autumn/Winter to Spring/Summer and back again.

There are tons of coat trends out there, thanks to the runways (Celiné, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors) and high street interpretations. From masculine to over-sized to furs and gorgeous lady like pea coats and hues upon hues of colours to choose from, it really would be silly to just have one coat last you the whole autumn/winter season. They complete the outfit, give it that certain je ne sais quoi, whether you’re going to work or heading out on the town. Having said that, with so much choice readily available to you, it can get confusing on which style to go for – so here are a few suggestions.

Candy Colours

The coat that sets its own rules. No longer should you think just Spring/Summer when it comes to cool pastels, turns out you can rock them during the A/W season too – awesome right? With this trend you can pick your favourite pastel colour and wear it in any style pretty much all year round.  You don’t have to be a total girly girl, wear a masculine tailored coat in a cool pastel shade or rock the oversized look – whatever the case don’t shy away from these gorgeous shades, wear it and make it your own.

Masculine

The masculine coat tends to be all about structured shoulders (think Grace Jones), double breasted heritage fabrics such as tweed and generally tend to be somewhat oversized, ref. the likes of Chloe, Alexandar Wang and Chanel. To pull of this trend you need to be tall so the big coat hags off you elegantly, but worry not, because you can still make this look work for you. For the not so tall fashionistas out there, rock this look with a belt – it’s a must – the coat will look shorter yet remain oversized without totally drowning you.

Fur

Not a totally new trend, but it’s making a fierce reappearance from gilets to coats– it’s bigger/over-sized, it’s cosier and well quite frankly it’s like giving yourself a never ending big bear hug. Totally fashion forward, and on trend this jacket is a necessity. Do remember though to not be too OTT, you don’t want to end up looking like a teddy bear. Keep the bottom half understated and skinny with your big fur coat and you’re pretty much on trend all year round.

Street worthy Punk

So the punk/grunge look has remained a favourite for the last few seasons and of course it would be a crime not to represent this fashion trend with our outerwear along with everything else, and so in the case of coats there is one kinda coat you need to be thinking about – LEATHER!! With Versace, Givenchy and Moschino going for a ’80s punk vibe revival this season, the biker jacket is a great piece. Biker jackets don’t just have to be punk and all studs, you can opt for the girly winter friendly fur trimmed ones or leather in burgundy or tan for versatility.
