Nubian Skin: Nude has Finally got Nude!

If you are a woman of colour, at one time or another you must have considered the irony of “nude” especially when the fashion world refers to “nude lingerie” or “nude hosiery” because for years, “nude” has never really meant “nude” for women of colour but varieties of beige, cream and ivory, but fortunately, this is about to change with the launch of Nubian Skin.

We have been keeping an eye on Nubian Skin’s Facebook page for a while, and now the innovative lingerie and hosiery brand has launched its e-commerce store at www.nubianskin.com True to its name, Nubian Skin goes against the grain to provide a range of lingerie and hosiery in a variety of shades for women with darker complexions and aims to empower and inspire women by alleviating the struggle women of colour face trying to find natural-tone undergarments.

Nubian was born out of founder Ade Hassan’s frustration by the lack of skin-tone options to go with her ever-expanding wardrobe. “My nude isn’t the nude I see in shops. Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery, the industry simply doesn’t cater to us. So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude,” Hassan says, explaining her venture to create ‘a different kind of nude’.

With a philosophy of ‘Empowering Women. Embracing our Colour’, Nubian Skin encourages women to embrace their skin through offering a broad range of skin-tones from the creamy ‘café au lait’ to the richest, darkest, ‘berry’. The brand offers bra sizes 30B – 36DD/E, with the hopes of expanding their size and product range in the future.
