We’re in the army now! No, not just any army but the C-Squared army. We had no choice but to enroll after their military inspired fashion invasion on Day 3 of Mercedes Benz Johannesburg Fashion Week. South Africa’s established cutting edge formalwear brand for urban men put a show that reminded us of just why they have earned their fashion stripes, with a collection featuring intense jewel colours and luxurious fabrics. But look out, none of these looks are for the shy and retiring wallflowers out there; the 2012-13 Autumn Winter C-Squared man is a fashion connoisseur who wants the style spotlight on himself and his stylish swag. Pomp and circumstance, backed by style substance is the order of the day here!
The slick, unfussy tailoring of crisy shirts from a colour palette of light to navy blue, pink to plum accessoried with tassled pocket triangles and bowties in complimentary colours soon gave way to all check, check, check as different check patterns and prints on shirts, waistcoats, ties, trousers clashed in a major way to signal a chequered future in menswear this autumn. Not shy of colur, the checks were kept bold in vibrant pinks, purples and blues.
Then came the monochrome, grey and indigo dinner jackets followed by tailored outerwear, flamboyant multi-coloured scarves accessorising necklines, more check trousers but the real showstoppers showed up in the shape of shimmery vests and blazers in black, white, pink and blue colour-blocked patterns – a must for the more daredevil fashionistos out there.
As eveningwear gave way to more casual daywear, brogues in rich candy colours either worn without socks or colour blocked with equally vibrant hued ock took centre stage.
The show that kicked off in a military manner ended on a similar note, but by then the army had grown with hundreds more of new recruits to C Squared #TopSwag fashion army.
