What is past is prologue, it seems, if the Fabiani show at Mercedes Benz Johannesburg Fashion Week is anything to go by. Laid-back vintage style, fine detailing and fab tailoring were the order of the day with one of South Africa’s leading luxury menswear labels established over 30 years ago kicked off the evening shows with a fashion fare that spelled class and luxe.
The cream and burgundy runner that ran the length of the catwalk gave a classy nod to eras goneby and walking sticks, fedoras and vintage suitcases all helped style the country gentlemen that graced the catwalk. According to Fabiani, it is the year of the gentleman – slick styled hair, well thought out accessories and an olden day swag!
Vintage flair aside, all the wardrobe staples of modern men were incorporated into this luxe collection from preppy cardigans and tailored shorts to relax in on a warm spring weekend to double-breasted suits and crisp collared shirts ideal for officewear to the slick eveningwear in the shape of velvet tuxedo jackets and the oversized bowties.
Fabiani’s sartorial style wasn’t only confined to traditional tailoring as there were more flamboyant styles on the runway, namely in the shape of neon laces on black brogues, a cheeky node to the King of the Red Sole, Christian Louboutin in the shape of red soles and rib-cuffed drop-crotch trousers for the more daring fashionistas out there. The piece de resistance came in the form of red velvet jacket and matching red oversized bowtie which got the fashion crowd a-twitter getting Fabiani to trend in SA, with said bowtie getting plenty mentions.
The Fabiani man this season looks not only rich and luxe, but with an air of dignity and elegance that only comes with old money – simply effortless chic from day to night.
