For months there have been talks of Lupita Nyong’o working alongside Brad Pitt on turning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah into a film and today came more news regarding the project. According to sources, Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and Golden Globe nominated actor David Oyelowo are set to co-star in the adaptation of the story which follows a pair of young Nigerian immigrants who face a lifetime of struggle while their relationship endures.
Brad Pitt is producing through his Plan B production banner along with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood but a production start date has not yet been set.
Oyelowo is set to appear in the cinemas shortly with Interstellar, A Most Violent Year, and Selma, another Plan B production for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination and may yet clinch an Oscar nomination.
This will be the first time Nyong’o and Oyelowo will work together. The Kenyan actress appeared alongside another British Nigerian actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave which earned her an Academy Award in the Best Actress category.
