Ayo Van Elmar’s Autumn/ Winter ’12 collection made its appearance last night at the Ubuntu international project show and what a show they brought to us. Ayo showcased a collection with a mix of afrocentric fabrics. The Nigerian designer incoporated prints, stripes and geometric patterns.

Ayo describes her collection as “Exploring the beauty of afrocentric fabrics and creating exquisite styles for women who is liberal, open minded and the women who believes that elegance knows no bound”

Ayo’s showcase saw model ankles adorned in chunky rope with an interesting array of dress coats which appeared to have to been made out of traditional West African fabrics, the union of alternate prints was captivating, with bold color choices considering it was assembled for the A/W season. Ayo effortlessly  brought together a very modern and feminine collection but also incorporated a masculine feature in the shape of a kufi cap that were lit and smoking down the runway. Simply FAB!
