L-R Deputy Gov. Mrs. Adejoke Adefulire-Orelope, Governor Fashola and First Lady Dame Abimbola Fashola
In Nigeria the 29th of May is democracy day because we officially transited from the military to democratic government on this day.
However this year, it was also handing over ceremony because we elected new representatives (well we were supposed to even though I still see the same faces in many offices). I complain not because I was privileged to be at Governor Fashola’s (for those who don’t know he is the past and present Governor of Lagos State) inaugural ball this year.
The event took place at the New Expo centre of Eko hotel and Suites and was compered by Ali Baba and Yo of Wazobia FM who ensured that we kept laughing all evening. Music was provided by Kwam 1’s colourful band. Honestly, I used to wonder what the big deal was about him, I experienced the big deal first hand because at some point I noticed my body started moving in the very dramatic way Yoruba women move when they hear these songs… he definitely has some magic to his tunes.
There were lots to eat and drink ( for what other reason would I be found there?:-)). I was too engrossed eating to take pictures and I didn’t want to step on toes too.. for all I know I might have been sitting next to the state’s chief of staff. Honestly, the number of bouncers or rather scary men clad in suits were a bit too much. I wanted to take a picture of a certain woman (name withheld for obvious reasons), her security official actually threatened to damage my camera if I attempted that.. Phew.. am glad I came out in one piece.
That aside it was a wonderful ball( with lots of gele) and I was able to get some FABulous pictures for your perusal.
