The ALS #IceBucketChallenge has been catching on rapidly for the past weeks and what started off with Hollywood celebrities and global political figures has come to Africa. Over the past few days alone celebrities like Don Jazzy, Eldee, Ice Prince, Falz, Davido, Genevieve Nnaji and more have taken to their Instagram pages to share videos of them taking part in the challenge.

Nollywood filmmaker Charles Novia is however not buying it and has asked Nigerian celebrities to mind their business and face what is actually killing people in their own country, which is most recently the Ebola Virus Disease.

According to Charles Novia, it’s irritating to see celebrities copy foreign celebs who are helping to fight a just cause in their own country, while Nigerian celebs ignore theirs and join in the foreign battle.

To be honest Charles Novia has a point in his opinion. We have to ask how many African celebrities are making donations like the foreign celebrities that they are trying to emulate? Recently Charlie Sheen took part in the challenge but instead of ice water he used cash because according to him “cash is something that will actually go a long way to help the cause”.

However not too long ago a lot of Hollywood stars took part in Nigeria’s #BringBackOurGirls movement so is it so out of place that Nigerian celebrities are rooting for this cause?
