Acclaimed comic, actor and presenter Kojo will be marking his return to the comedy circuit with his hilarious new show “Live N Kicking” at Hackney Empire on January 20 and 21st. It will be the energetic 31-year-old’s first solo outing in five years, since taking the US by storm, landing his own comedy series on MTV Base and becoming a presenter on Choice FM.

With a reputation for delivering quick fire barbs and unforgettable punchlines, Kojo has written a show which will focus on a range of topics including the capital’s dating scene, being raised in foster care, the likelihood of a black prime minister and the London riots.

He says:  “I’m one of many urban voices that need to be heard as the things politicians ignore are the things we’ve had to make jokes out of to stop us going crazy!”

Having previously sold out the Hackney Empire in 2006 and 2007, the event will also be his very first live DVD recording, set to be released at the end of 2012

Very few people can boast of the achievements Kojo has made in the 11 years he’s dominated the black comedy scene. The charming and charismatic comic has performed worldwide, been a regular headline act at Jongleurs Comedy Clubs around the UK, and performed alongside heavyweights including Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Michael McIntyre and Eddie Griffin.  He was also a recent hit in the US when he made it to the semi-finals on the NBC show Last Comic Standing In America and landed an opportunity to host the first ever Def Comedy Jam Tour after impressing music mogul Russell Simmons.

Starting his career in 2000, Kojo built up his name after bringing down the house at a university talent show and developing his craft at “The Comedy School”, run by fellow comedians Rudi Lickwood and Keith Palmer. “The Fresh Prince of Hackney” soon began to sell out his stand-up shows and his rapid popularity led him to open up his own weekly comedy club at Corks Wine Bar in London’s West End. Over the years he’s made countless TV and radio appearances including a stint alongside Reggie Yates on the CBBC Channel, a feature on the Stephen K Amos Show and The 5 O’clock show with Lenny Henry and his own show on Choice FM. On MTV, he’s been a part of the presenting team with his own show called Kojo’s Comedy Fun House.

To add to his successes, he sold out a summer show at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival 2011, and made his movie debut in Noel Clarke‘s new rom-com, The Knot. He’s now finished writing his first feature movie called The Weekend, which will be distributed by Revolver Entertainment.
