We sat down with Standards & Practices Vice President of Design and Merchandising, Marcus Lansden for a quick Q&A:

FAB: Describe the Standards & Practices brand to us?

Standards & Practices: This brand is targeted at a “20 something year old female,” who’s looking for contemporary fashion at an affordable price! She owns $200 dollar jeans and Manolo Blahnik’s, but also has H&M in her closet. She’s fashion conscious, but price is of concern. We are the new $100 dollar contemporary denim brand.

FAB: What does Standards & Practices mean and how did you come up with this name?

Standards & Practices: Standards & Practices (also referred to as Broadcast Standards & Practices), is the name traditionally given to the department at a television network who is responsible for the moral, ethical, and legal implications of the program that network airs. We came up with this name because we strive for the idea of producing ecologically friendly garments with a high street look at an affordable price.

FAB: When/how did you become involved in fashion?

Standards & Practices: I’ve always been interested in fashion, as well as the psychological avenue of why people wear what they do. My family tells me that it started around the time I could dress myself. I’ve always been very visual but have always been fascinated with the question, “Why”?

FAB: Describe your style in 5 words?

Standards & Practices: Interestingly basic.

FAB: What inspires you?

Standards & Practices: Many, many things! I think what most inspires me is people’s innate ability to reinvent the way they look and create their own personal style. I also feel that every day we move through our lives, but forget to notice the simple things right in front of us. For instance, the last few days I’ve had a moth in my house who followed me everywhere. I happened to notice the beautiful markings on its wings, and thought, “That would make a fantastic print!”

FAB: Describe your latest collection?

Standards & Practices: Our latest collection includes fashion staples with surprising details. It could be anything from the fabric or something as simple as a piece of trim.

FAB: How did you come up with this concept?

Standards & Practices: I came up with this concept because I always look for ways to reinvent traditions with a nice, firm twist.

FAB: Where is your collection stocked(shops, boutiques, internet)?

All of the afore mentioned. They’re sold online at and, as well as many local boutiques and specialty stores nationwide.

FAB: What makes you so FAB?

Standards & Practices: Aren’t we all FAB in some way?! I think we’re fabulous because we’ll make you look like you’re straight from the runway, without breaking the bank!

FAB: What is the future for Standards & Practices?

Standards & Practices: Our future has us branching out into “Top and Sweater” categories. As a creative person, it’s very exciting for me to be able to open up new ways to reach our clients. We’re also working on a deal for Global distribution, but shhhh, you didn’t hear that from me!
