Recent exhibition: Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography (V&A Museum, 12 April – 17 July 2011)
Guy Tillim is a widely respected and exhibited contemporary photojournalist working in the field of digital reportage. Initially photographing in South Africa during the apartheid years in the 1980s, he now captures the stillness of the aftermath of regions grazed by war and conflict. The photographer takes compelling images which delight in the power of recurring compositional motifs: the frontal pose of portraiture, the central horizon, the framed distortion of a car windshield or the power of strong diagonals.
